How Choosing the Right Bottle Can Help With Baby's Indigestion

When I first became a mom I was over the moon happy. Avarie seemed to be the perfect little baby. At 3 weeks old she was already sleeping through the night. She'd sleep on average 10-12 hours straight. During the times she wasn't sleeping, she'd happily sit in her playpen and watch The Wonder Pets, Teletubbies, or any one of the shows on Nick Jr. She was calm, didn't really cry much, and made me feel like this motherhood thing was a breeze. She made me feel like I could definitely have at least 2 to 3 more kids. Then 3 years later her sister arrived and disrupted every previous vision I had of motherhood.

Alexah, unlike her sister, wouldn't sleep at all. She'd wake up 2 to 3 times a night, wouldn't sit still for very long, and from colic. It was a completely different experience from the one I had with Avarie. The inconsolable crying was probably the worst of it. She would cry endlessly and nothing my husband and I did could comfort her. We spoke to our pediatrician who suggested we try a gentler formula and she also suggested trying a bottle with a venting system to help with gas. With Avarie, I used the Tommee Tippee bottles and loved them. I tried using them with my youngest and found that they were not as easy on her digestion system as they were to Avarie's. The Tommee Tippee bottles were allowing her to suck in too much air and it caused her so much discomfort.

If you're a new mommy or a mommy to be and discover that your baby isn't able to burp easily or you're finding that they're fussy after you've given them a bottle, it can either be the formula they're drinking or the bottle you're using. With my youngest it was both. Eventually I had to change her formula from Similac to Enfamil Gentleease and I also had to change her bottle from Tommee Tippee to Dr. Brown. Switching to Dr. Brown bottles made all the difference. The Dr. Brown bottles come with a venting system to help prevent gas and colic. They literally helped my baby with her digestion. I swear by Dr. Brown and definitely recommend them if you're baby has an underdeveloped digestion system.
