Coming Undone, The Book

I have never considered myself a love poet by any means. My work mostly has been centered around identity, feminism, culture and heritage. Those have always been the things that I am most passionate about and the things that are easiest for me to write about. This new project is unchartered territory for me, but when inspiration comes knocking we must be prepared to open that door.

I have always been leery about writing love poems partly because if not done properly can come off a bit corny. Pablo Neruda and Sufi poet Rumi, two of my favorite poets, are both brilliant love poets. I've read both of their works extensively and even with their brilliance have never been inspired to write love poetry.

I never set out to intentionally write a collection of love poems. It just sorta happened. I wrote one poem, then another, and another, and so forth. The love poems seemed to just spill out of me and what it felt like was as if something bigger than me was writing them. I was just the vessel used to give them life. Writing this book helped me to really look at the act of love in all of its complexity and though sometimes hard, it is by far the most beautiful act of revolution we can ever gift ourselves and others. To love and be loved is all any of us really want. To love so fully and completely that we let go all of our insecurities and inhibitions until all that is left are two souls intertwined by respect, admiration, acceptance, and love.

I am super proud of the poems in this book and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
