“Live On Purpose” Challenge Day 5: Who’s On Your Team? Get your squad up!
There’s a saying in Spanish that says “Dime con quien andas y te digo quien eres (Tell me who you walk with, and I’ll tell you who you are). Who we surround and align ourselves with has a huge influence on who and what we become. The same way running with the “wrong” crowd can get us into unnecessary trouble, rolling with the right crew can elevate us higher than we could ever imagine.
When going after our dreams or trying to accomplish goals it’s important to surround ourselves with people who believe in our dreams, encourage our ideas, support our ambitions, and bring out the best in us. These are the people you want by your side while climbing that long arduous ladder to success. The energy we surround ourselves with seeps into everything we do and if we are constantly surrounded by people who complain and only see the glass as half full we will eventually succumb to that type of energy.
However, if the people in your circle are encouraging and have dreams of their own then they will push you and support you in the pursuit of yours. This is especially critical during those times of struggle or when we encounter challenges. A negative Nelly will allow you to wallow in your misery and self-pity while a positive Patty will motivate you to keep going despite the obstacle that presents.
For today’s challenge I want you to look at your circle and who you choose to surround yourself with. Do these people believe in you? Do they encourage, inspire, and motivate you? Are they supportive? Or do they try to minimize the work you do? Do they try and make you believe that your goals and dreams are impossible? I want you to take an inventory of the people in your life and promote or demote as necessary. Not everyone who we love or who says they love us has our best interest in mind. Remember, you can still love people from afar.
